Jatropha podagrica, commonly known as the Buddha belly plant, is a succulent shrub native to Central America. It is characterized by its swollen trunk and branches, resembling a 'belly,' and vibrant red flowers. Popular as an ornamental plant, Jatropha podagrica thrives in warm climates and well-drained soil, making it ideal for gardens and containers.

Plant Care:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect sunlight for optimal growth. Jatropha podagrica can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon, but avoid intense midday sun.

  • Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Protect the plant from temperatures below 50°F (10°C) as it is sensitive to cold.

  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil feels dry during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce watering in the winter, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings.
