The genus Pandanus (screwpine), which includes the tropical plant Pandanus amaryllifolius, is usually referred to as pandan (/ˈpaendən/; Malay: [ˈpandan]). Its aromatic leaves are commonly used to flavor food throughout Southeast Asia. It is also present in Hainanese food from China and in certain cuisines from South Asia, including Tamil cuisine.
